RUNNING WITHOUT an 0-licence and displaying an expired disc has cost a London operator £1,450 in fines and costs. Barking magistrates fined Tabline of Priem Barnet Lane, Whetstone, £1,000 for using an 0-licence disc with intent to deceive and £200 for having no 0-licence. The company, which failed to appear, was also ordered to pay £250 costs. Anthony Ostrin, prosecuting for VOSA, told the court that a three-axled Scania rigid operated by the company was stopped at a roadside check. The
standard international 0-licence disc displayed on the vehicle was in the name of Heyland Haulage and had expired 10 months before.A check on the Goods Operator Licence database revealed that a current licence was not in existence for either Heyland Haulage or Tabline.
Ostrin told the court: "This was a clear deception by displaying in the windscreen a licence that did not belong to the operator company and furthermore it had expired." BANG TO RIGHTS
The magistrates clearly took a very serious view of the deception, which was reflected in the fine imposed.
