PRESIDENT of the Confederation of British Industries, Sir Maurice Laing, paid tribute to the "live, virile and inventive" engineers employed by the industry when he opened the Mechanical Handling Exhibition on Tuesday.

A new type of wire pallet developed by Bambergers Pallets and Cases Ltd., typifies this inventiveness.
