Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• by Brian Weatherley Truck engine specialist Feather Diesel has opened a new regional Diesel Diagnostic Centre (DDC) at Daventry, Northants, serving truck, bus and van operators in the Midlands and South of England.

The 1,828m2 facility, set up at a cost of £500,000, has an 1360hp rolling-road dynamometer capable of testing the power, torque and fuel consumption of commercial vehicles; Feathers can also provide a full fuelinjection system testing and re-calibration service on site allowing operators to maximise vehicle fuel economy and ensure exhaust emission compliance. Any fuel pump/injection equipment requiring major repair or reconditioning work that can't be handled at Daventry will be dispatched to Feather's main technical centre in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

However. Daventry is the first DDC created by Feather and further regional centres are planned for the future.

Opening the site last week, Feather chairman Dan Wright declared: The increasing sophistication of electronic engine management systems and the introduction of ever-more stringent emissions legislation means that dedicated equipment and real 'know-how' is essential to ensure peak performance, optimum fuel consumption and full 'green' credentials." According to Wright, Feather's diagnostic and calibration service will "ensure that major fleets don't waste money on unreliable vehicles, and that Individual problems are solved first time".

Feather's reputation amongst the truck manufacturers for its fuel system 'knowledge' Is legendary, with many sending their press-test vehicles to the company's Halifax centre for a final 'sign-off' before hitting the road on trial. CM'S sister title Truck also uses the dynamometer at Feather's Halifax site to confirm power torque outputs on all vehicles submitted for roadtest.

In addition to its diesel fuel injection work, Feather has also converted over 100 CNG-fuelled trucks for operators such as Safeway, and runs Its own CNC refuelling station at Elland.
