Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Reeve Burgess has increased the seating capacity of its Beaver body with a long-rearoverhang option on MercedesBenz chassis.

The first example has gone into service with Tonbridgebased New Enterprise Coaches. It is based on the 4,250mmwheelbase Mercedes-Benz 811D.

The extra 990mm in body length increases seating capacity on the Mercedes-Benz 709D and 811D chassis from 25 to 29; the 4,800mm 811D can now take up to 33 seats.

The longer body adds about £2,500 to the price of a standard £32,000 Beaver bus.

NEC, which is part of Maidstone & District Motor Services, paid about £38,000 for its high-specification Beaver, which is fitted with 25 coach seats and a luggage pen.

NEC will use its extended Beaver for private hire and contracts. However, it has space for fare equipment so it could also be used on conventional midi bus services with M&DMS, which is moving out of its Tunbridge Wells depot to another site further out of town near the A21. There are no immediate plans to introduce a long-rearoverhang Beaver on the Iveco Ford 4910, Renault 556 or Renault 575 chassis.
