Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

In his recent report the chairman of National Freight Corporation does himself less than justice. His failure is not so great as he would lead us to believe. The operating companies have made profits as follows over the years : 1971 £8,089,000 1972 £5,863,000 1973 £5,387,000 1974 £459,000 The net loss of NFC has risen from £1,645,000 to £12,280,000, but the operating companies have only got worse by the above figures. Many of these additional items are interest charges to finance the overseas developments and meet an increase of £1 million on his headquarters at Argosy House.
