Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALL necessary support for the development of electric vehicles for all types of road transport uses will be provided by the Government. This pledge was made last week by Mr Neil Carmichael, Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the DoE. He was speaking at the Electric Vehicle Association's annual lunch in London.

Mr Carmichael posed three questions 'to illustrate thinking at the DoE " : what methods of battery packaging will be best in 30 years' time (when the high:temperature sodium sulphur batteries should be commonplace); can efficient trouble-free control systems be developed for large electric power systems to give motorway speeds and long range; and what research an development resources will t needed if these challenges at to be met.

Electric vehicle developmer was "one of our brighter pro. pects," said Mr Carrnichae He said that ultimate] electricity must be harnessc to provide power for all tran port systems because it ri.q the only manageable form t energy of which there was potentially inexhaustible su ply. "The problem before is how to package this electr power so that it can be USE to propel road vehicles wii the range and performance today's petrol and diesc powered vehicles," said tl Minister.
