ORDERS for a total of 550 Metropolitan double-deckers have now been taken, a spokesman for Metro-Cammell Weymann told CM last week. MCW produces the integral vehicles using running units from Scania. Work has been going on since the vehicle was first introduced to improve and update the design, and develop ment work has succeeded in improving the fuel consumption. Typical figures are now 1.95-2.3km/1 (5.5-6.5mpg), said the spokesman.

MCW has also had discussions with Ailsa, FodenNorthern Counties and Dennis with a view to bodying each of these types of double-decker, should supplies of conventional Leyland chassis dry up.
