• Repeating his last year's success, in Class E(1), S. G. Neate (ABM Industrial Products Ltd., Dodge) recorded the best performance of the day in the LDoY round at Manchester last weekend. In Class A all placed drivers came from one company, Rowlands Brothers Ltd., and in Class F(1) all were from National Carriers Ltd. This, however, did not give either of them the team award which went to T. Wall and Sorts Ltd. (V. Rose, J. P. Walker and

C. Ramsay Hill) with a total of 257 penalty points.

The standard of driving was high throughout and Mr. V. P. Scone-Rees (Shell-Mex and BP Ltd.), who distributed the awards, commented that there was certainly no need for the British commercial driver to be underrated when comparing with his Con

tinental counterpart often working in less congested conditions.

At 146 the entry was slightly down on last year. As usual the independent haulage representation was small but public carriers in the shape of Freightliners Ltd., BRS and National Carriers Ltd. constituted 16 per cent of the total.
