IT IS GETTING close to decision time for European truck makers contemplating taking ZF's 12speed Ecosplit direct-drive manual box.

Although the transmission, which has a 2,800Nm capacity and a three-position shift pattern like Volvo and Scania, was expected to appear in Dais new XF105 tractor, so far no European truck manufacturer has committed to f itting it.

However, ZF says it expects an announcement to be made by a manufacturer at the Hanover Show in September The 16-speed Ecosplit will remain in use for construction vehicles, where ZF insists the extra ratios are needed.
