Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A N application by Norfolk Motor I-1 Services, Ltd., of Great Yarmouth, for an express service from northern East Anglia to Southend, connecting with Continental holiday tours, was opposed by four bus and coach operators when it was heard by the Eastern Traffic Commissioners at Cambridge last week.

The Commissioners deferred a decision on the proposed journey, which would start at Lowestoft and go via Gorleston, Yarmouth, Acle, Norwich and Scole. It would operate on Saturdays and Sundays from the third Saturday in May to the second Sunday in October, and daily during July and August.

The objectors were the Eastern National and Eastern :Counties companies,. Red Car Service (Norwich), Ltd., and Mascot Coaches of Norwich.

In addition a letter from Channel Airways of Southend was received during the case which said they had just heard of the application. They had commenced an express service in May between Norwich, Ipswich and Southend, and it was considered that the applicants' timetable could abstract traffic from their combined coach-air transport.

At the same hearing the Commissioners refused an application by Seagull Coaches, Ltd., also of Great Yarmouth, to operate a day excursion to Cambridge from Easter to October 31 on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The chairman of the Commissioners, Mr. W. P. S. Ormond, said: "There may be a case for this additional facility, but we have to be satisfied that there is a need. There are existing facilities and there is no evidence that they do not meet the need."
