INTERESTING developments are re1 ported by John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., Smith Square, London, S.W.1, which is now offering its wellknown Bulldog 3-ton chassis with the latest Dorman-Ricardo 4DS-type fourcylindered oil engine. This unit has a bore and stroke of 31 ins. by 4/ ins, respectively, and develops up to 50 b.h.p. In order to distinguish these chassis from the corresponding types incorporating the company's own make of petrol engine, the name " Bullfmch " has been chosen for the oil-engined models.
The Bullfinch is available in three types, two having a wheelbase of 12 ft. (one arranged for forward control) and n34
the other a wheelbase of 14 ft. With 32-in. by 6-in, pneumatic tyres (twins at the rear) the normal-control 12-ft.wheelbase chassis sells at £555, the
other types being £565. With tyre „equipment of a larger size the prices are slightly higher.
Another interesting Thornycroft announcement is that a choice of petrol or oil engines is now available for all the company's freight models, with the exception of the Handy 2-tonner.
The company has made a substantial reduction in the list price of the Taurus four-cylinder petrol-enginecl 6-7-ton chassis which is now offered at £775, completely equipped, the long-wheelbase model being £10 extra. ' Alternatively, for long-distance haulage, or under conditions where a high average road speed must be maintained, the Taurus six-cylinder petrol-engined chassis is available at an extra charge of £100, compared with the corresponding four-cylinder model.
