The West Kent and Bromley Omnibus Co., Ltd., of which we gave some advance particulars in our last issue, has now been registered. The chairman is to be Mr. F. Medhurst.

Well Tried, Sir

The lamentable motorbus smash at Kensal Rise last week, in which several passengers were injured, was due entirely to the promptitude with which the driver of the motorbus endeavoured to avoid a lady cyclist, who, it appears, swerved towards him.

Authorities Get Together.

The Scarborough Rural District Council is endeavouring to urge other local authorities to combine in an effort to persuade the NorthEastern Railway Co. to discontinue running their motor chars-a-bancs along the highway from Silpho to Hackness, and also along the highway through Troutdale, as such traffic is considered dangerous.

Cardiff-Llandaff.

The Cardiff Tramways Co., Ltd., has written to the Llandaff and Dinas Powis Council to the effect that, owing to the fact that the motorbus service which it maintains between Cardiff and Whitchurch is not a very paying one, it will not continue to maintain it if the council insists that the company must also run from Llandaff to Cardiff. A licence has been granted to Mr. F. Meyer, of Merthyr, to run motorbus services bstween Llandaff North and the Cardiff General Post Office.

Not Unknown on Tubes.

Some complaint is being made of the overcrowding of London motorbuses on certain routes during the present season. Similar inconvenience below ground appears to pass unnoticed.

Hope Its a Permanency.

The application of Mr. H. J. Burridge, for licences for two new motorbuses which are to ply for hire between Bedford and Kempston, has been granted by the Kempston Urban District Council. An intimation was conveyed to the licensee that it was hoped that the service was not in the nature of a temporary one.

Better the Devil You Know, etc.

At the last monthly meeting of the Keighley Town Council, a recommendation of the Tramways Committee was mentioned to the effect that clauses should be inserted in the Corporation's next Bill, which should provide for the serving of certain routes within and without the borough, and also for the running of motorbuses both on specified routes and for the conveyance of private parties. Mr. Councillor Smith said that he thought trackless trams would be a cheaper and better system than an independent motorbus organization. The motorbuses, which the committee had put on, had so far run 117,000 miles at a cost of Hid. per mile, and he stated that the Eastburn and Oakworth routes were the only two that had paid their way. There were slight losses

on the Nab Wood and the Whins Wood routes. He was of opinion that the motorbuses had been well worth the money that had been spent upon them, if for no other reason than that the Corporation had gained very extensive experience. They had tested a number of routes satisfactorily.

Brighton Trolley Buses.

Alderman J. J. Clark, LP., the chairman of the Brighton, Hove and Preston United Omnibus Co., Ltd., lectured, one evening last week, to the inhabitants of Rottingdean on the subject of the adoption of railless tramcars between Brighton and Rottingdean. He stated that his company was now the only proprietor to run electric buses in this country. He claimed that the wear and tear of the roads would be much less with the railless-trolley system than it was at present with the independent motorbuses, " the reason being that in motorbuses there is a succession of explosions, whereas with the new system there is a continuous pushing motion " (sic). Mr. Clark said that it had been decided to proceed with that portion of the original Bill which asked for powers to run trackless trams between Brighton and Rottingdean. It would then be possible to run the new cars from Brighton as motorbuses, and then, on arrival at the boundary, to remove the battery and to proceed to Rottingdean by means of the overhead wire. He was sure the railless cars would be satisfactory. London General Omnibus Stock has again been on the move, and at the time of going to press, the Ordinary is steady at 111. One of the latest announcements with regard to this company's sustained policy of re-organization is the transference of the chief administrative offices from Grosvenor Road to a more-central position.

Clincher Tires.

A Dundee owner, Mr. W. Raikes Bell, has given the following testimolly to the behaviour of a pair of 3i-in. soft Clincher tires, from the works of the North British Rubber Co., Ltd., of Edinburgh, fitted to a 14-seated Albion char-h-banes, which is the property of the Forfarshire Motorbus Co. He writes : "These tires have now done over 36,000 miles, and are quite a curiosity. The interesting point is, they seem from appearance good for another year's work or more yet."
