Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new company headed by former White Arrow Express boss Barry McGowan has bought Placketts Express Parcels.

Impact Logistics has acquired the shares of Placketts Holdings, the parent company of the 250-vehicle business. Most of these shares were previously owned by the family which founded the company 60 years ago.

McGowan, former joint managing director of White Arrow, the Great Universal Stores' subsidiary, has become chief executive of Placketts.

He says that the re-financing will allow the Stapleford, Nottinghamshire-based compa

ny to "achieve its potential" in the UK, where it specialises in three-day deliveries. And in the longer term it could enable the business to expand overseas, he says.

The Transport & General Workers Union says the company has assured it that none of its 260 drivers at its 12 depots will lose their jobs.

McGowan, who has worked in the transport industry for more than 30 years, says he will reveal more details of the deal at the end of the month after briefing his 700 staff.

However, he says some of the former Placketts directors remain as directors of Impact Logistics.
