INTERNATIONAL Hauliers Federation chairman Ken Bachmann is to write to the Department of Transport to demand action which will bring a fairer allocation of international haulage permits.

Speaking at a meeting of the IHF in Barking last week, Mr Bachmann said that unless action is forthcoming within three weeks, the 160 members will consider taking action — including blockading of ports. The members want a new system of allocation because they claim that at present permits are allocated to companies which do not have the work to warrant blocks of permits.
