Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Martin Rhodes. ML) of York-based White Rose Transport, took over the haulage operations of Johnson of Whixley's garden-centre business in November 2005; earlier this year he upgraded his fleet with a third Stralis.

Of Rhodes' 15 trucks, II are tractors: three Iveco Stralises; two Dafs; and six Mercedes-Benz Actroses. The trailers arc predominately curtainsiders with some tlats."We look at the overall package. We took a demonstrator from Iveco and got a good offer. Two of the Stralises arrived here in 2006 and the third in March 2007."

With the new Stralis demonstrator the operator can compare directly both generations. ."Itie older ones weren't very robust:' he says. "They were good looking and driver-friendly,but the interior seemed flimsy, very plasticky."

The new Stralis comes out much better. "It is a lot more robust. with better build quality FACT FILE and sonic extra Mileage:1,186km gadgets, but nothing Fuel economy: 9.0mpg detrimental." he adds.

Feedback is all positive and in 'overall comments' it reads:"Vehicle overall very good. Interior seems more robust than our current Euro-3 model Stralis."

More interesting is the issue of lead times and their effect on White Rose Transport's replacement programme. Rhodes says Daf will not deliver before September 2008, whereas Mercedes and Iveco are promising next March. "So Dal is out of the running," he concludes.
