Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'UK ROADS lag behind EU' (CM 15 November) was a very interesting article highlighting how far behind the rest of Europe we are slipping in investing in our road network, Unfortunately the green lobby seems to hold the high moral ground and is preventing any major investment in our infrastructure.

The key to succeed is to show roads as positively as possible and link them to longer, heavier trucks (LHVs) with greatly enhanced fuel consumption and reduced emissions.

No one will convince me that trains are a more environmentally friendly option than road transport as in most instances rail traffic has to be collected by road then trans-shipped. and vice versa for delivery.

This may be acceptable on Anglo-Italian traffic, for example, but it seems a pointless waste of resources within the UK.
