Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Fine proposals, but ...

IWAS very much impressed by two items that appeared I in the technical Press last week.

One was The R.H.A.'s proposed scheme which is going Lo the Geddes Committee. The other was the news item in The Commercial Motor headed, "Tories Re-affirm Freedom of Choice ".

Dealing with Tory proposals, I believe this is the first time that anything like " logic " has been applied to the future of the industry. The proposals are both very fine and idealistic --and obviously much thought has been applied. I am, however, disappointed in one thing. They have forgotten labour. I include office staffs, but am thinking mostly of the driver who, under the Conservative system applies for work and obtains it, say, on the assurance that he will have a 42or 44-hour week. After starting work he finds that if he wishes to keep his job he is obliged to work a 60 to 70-hour week—and longer.

As for wages--directly the worker gets a rise—prices go up. Concerning advancement at work, a man might be promoted (if he is lucky and his face fits!), but for the masses this is not possible.

We must not exploit labour in this industry. Let t have a sound policy for road transport—similar to the or outlined in your article—but fully comprehensive.

Packing Accommodation Wanted

AS a student of passenger transport and a regular read of your journal I am writing on behalf of a vehic preservation group, of which I am a member.

We have recently acquired a pre-War London bus, at regarding this I wish to make a request for assistanc through the columns of The Commercial Motor.

We wish to appeal to any transport concern, preferab in North London. which might be willing to provide par ing accommodation for the vehicle so that restorath work can be carried out on it. The ultimate aim of cs group is to restore the bus to as near as original conditis and livery as is possible. We consider the acquisition this vehicle for preservation to be justified in view of i place in London passenger transport evolution.
