C'ARRIMORE LTD.. of North Finchley.

London, has recently delivered two vehicles equipped with clamping roofs for the purpose of carrying steel drums and kegs to Drums Ltd., of Grays, Essex. In the past Carrimore has built semi-trailers with this type of body, but these have been of the straight-frame type. The latest units have step-frames, giving a slightly greater capacity than their predecessors.

The clamping roofs are operated by handpowered screw gear and are designed to be wound down on to the top of a load of drums, so securing them for transit without

the need for elaborate stillages. A permanent roof provides protection from the weather, together with canvas side curtains running on Coburn tracks; these can be opened for the full length on both sides. To prevent damage to the cargo, the clamping roof is lined on the underside with 2 in. of soft-grade Sorho rubber; the range of travel of the clamps is 2 ft.

• Mounted on single-axle running gear fitted with 8.25-17, 10-ply tyres, the semi-trailer is towed by a Bedford TK prime mover of 8-ft. wheelbase and has a Scammell automatic coupling. The payload capacity is 5 tons.
