• Volvo is to test trucks and buses fitted with particulate filters designed to reduce emissions.
Laboratory tests using filters with integrated catalysts have reduced particulate emissions by some 80%, hydrocarbons by 60%, and carbon monoxides by over 50%, says Volvo.
The filter is cleaned either electrically or during normal operation by high exhaust temperatures.
A batch of pre-production trucks and buses are being fitted with these filters for test operations in urban areas.
