AS CM went to press on Mo day, pickets were blockadii the Perkins diesel engine pla at Peterborough.
The siege follows the wal out of 7,000 production woe ers last Friday over a pa. dispute. They took over tl factory on Sunday and us company lorries and vans barricade the gates.
The workers, members the engineering union, a wanting pay parity with tho of Massey Ferguson, of whil Perkins is a subsidiary.
Talks were held betwe( Perkins management at union representatives all th Friday, but the union later sa that the company's offer w, "unacceptable."
It was planned to resun the talks on Tuesday but in ti meantime a strike was ai nounced and this escalat( into the factory takeover la: Sunday.
The management has said will not resume talks until tl strike is called off, but ti union refuses to return work until a better offer made.
One picket said: "No one going in or out until our clai: is met — even if it takes s months."
A spokesman for Perkir said: "We appear to ha% reached a deadlock."
