Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An application by Hodges Transport, Swindon, was refused by the Western LA, Mr J. R. C. Samuel-Gibbon, at Devizes this week.

No representative of the company turned up at the inquiry to support its B licence application.

Mr. Michael Macgregor-Johnson, for National Freight Corporation in respect of BRS, one of the two objectors, said he had been informed about 14 days before the application that the firm would be represented at the inquiry.

Mr. Samuel-Gibbon said: "we have not heard from them and they have not had the courtesy to return our form saying whether or not they would be represented here".

The LA formally refused the application.

A variation of B licence application by Frigfreight Ltd., Trowbridge, was granted with no hearing and a B licence application from W. V. Dowdle of Devizes, had been withdrawn.
