• The Scottish Bus Group is seeking increased fares and its application will come before the Scottish Traffic Commissioners next month. The Group faces a new wage increase of £1 al. The rate of increase is basically id on fares from 4d to is 8d; by 2d for fares between 1s 10d and 4s 9d and by 3d on fares of 5s and over The proposals cover all companies in the Group and will affect fares throughout the whole of Scotland.

Other fares increases

South Wales

• Four bus companies in South Wales are seeking increased fares to offset a major wage award being introduced on September 14. They are the South Wales Transport Co., United Welsh Services, Thomas Bros.. (Port Talbot) Ltd., and Neath and Cardiff Luxury Coaches. Applications lodged with the South Wales Traffic Commissioners are likely to be heard in late October.

Glasgow

• Glasgow Corporation Transport Committee has approved fare increases, to be placed before the Scottish Traffic Commissioners at the earliest possible date. The Corporation's estimated 1969/70 deficit is £276,000. The increases have been made necessary by additional costs of £1m over the past two years, including higher wages and superannuation.

Leeds

• The Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, in Leeds last week. granted Halifax Corporation Passenger Transport Department permission to increase fares of stage carnage services from Sept 15. The application was unopposed. Increases were estimated to bring in £76,000 a year. giving a surplus of E37,000.

Derbyshire

• Three Derbyshire councils have filed objection against bus fare increases of up to 2d proposed on some routes by the North Western Road Car Company. The Buxton Borough, Whaley Urban and Chapel Rural Councils claim the proposals come too soon after a general fares increase a year ago.
