• When Lord Stokes visited the 22-acre site at Distington, Cumberland, last week at which Leyland National plan to produce their new integral bus, he said that the new vehicle would be far ahead of anything that competitors could offer in home Or overseas markets. Details of the bus would not be revealed until it was exhibited at Earls Court in 1970, he said. The plant, scheduled for completion by mid-1971,
could produce the new bus economically on a single shift system, said Mr. R. Ellis, British Leyland truck and bus division managing director, but they expected to operate at a higher level to get better utilization. Among those visiting the site was Mr. Marcus Smith, who has been named as general manager of the new factory.
