Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new 16-ton-g.c.w. lightweight semitrailer has been added to the Crane Fruehauf/ B aden group range of platform types. Designated PB16/CD1. the Super Lightweight is available in fifth-wheel and auto-coupling forms.

The new trailers will be available in lengths from 22 to 33ft in 1ft increments; weights range upwards from 4,259Ib and both models offer a payload of about 10.5 tons. The main frame has fabricated I-beam side-members 15.75in. deep at the belly and 8.25in, at the neck. Rolled-steel I-section cross-members are continuous, being threaded through the side-members. Raves are of the CF narrow raised-rib type.

The suspension is Crane Fruehauf CD1 Series multi-leaf, while standard tyre equipment is 8.25-20, 14-ply; one of several weight-saving options is the availability of 15-19.5 18-ply single tyres (saving 222Ib per trailer). Rubery-Owen-Rockwell 16.000lb tubular axles are fitted.

Fifth-wheel trailers have 15.5 x 6in. S-cam brakes and a three-line system; auto-coupled versions have 15.25 x 5in, wedge brakes operated by a two-line system, the auxiliary line being provided by a mechanical/air system.

Landing gear is CF standard single-speed: decking is 4in. hardwood boards laid longitudinally with each board half-lapped at every joint. A 2ft softwood headboard is standard.
