Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

"We are now hopeful that the MoT will allow a 10 per cent tolerance on axle weights where the gross weight limit is not exceeded," the FTA stated this week. "The general 10 per cent tolerance would, of course, be of the utmost advantage but this is not considered to be a feasible proposition, given that it would mean an allowance of over 3 tons on the heaviest vehicles."

For this reason the FTA has concentrated its case on the axle weight problem and it is hoping to hear from the Ministry during the next month or so. In the meantime, the Association says it welcomes the support being provided by the National Research Development Corporation in an attempt to sponsor the development of built-in weight measuring devices.
