Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

In CM August 15, George Wilmot highlighted some of the problems that face the older candidates in an examination, The I RTE is fully aware of these problems and endorses Mr. Wilmot's views on the subject. Entry into the IRTE is not by examination or education alone: there is also a strong requirement for experience and responsibility in the job. And this is where the older and more experienced candidates can find themselves at an advantage since IRTE accepts a technical paper or thesis instead of examination success. This method of proving knowledge does not in any way allow a lower standard: it will in most cases raise the standard, since experience is not obtained easily or cheaply.

The I RTE education committee is always prepared to consider and assist candidates for membership by examination or thesis.
