The Mercury Indusirial Truck is Built in Line with Usual Lorry Practice. It Has a Four-cylindered 10. h.p.Engine

WE learn from the Mercury Truck and.Tractor Co.. Ltd., VV 19, London Road, Gloucester, that this concern is busily engaged in the production of its well-known 2-ton industrial trucks, in fulfilment of the orders for considerable numbers of vehicles that it has in hand.

Whilst the Mercury is primarily' designed for service, in yards, factories, etc , it make's a handy vehicle for short journeys on the road, in which ease a driver's'cab can be provided, as shown in an accompanying illustration.

The model depicted is designated 10F2 and is standard except for the cab and the fact that the body is larger, measuring 8 ft. by 4 ft. 6 ins., the normal body being 6 ft. -long add 4 ft. 44 ins. wide. For good mance.uvrability in confined spaces, the wheelbase is kept down to 5 ft. 2 ins. Designed to carry a 2-ton pay-load, the truck can, in addition, tow 6-6 tons on a trailer.

Powered by a 10 h.p. engine, with four cylinders measuring 2.5 ins. by 3.84 ins, and developing 22 b.h.p., the vehicle is stated to be notably economical, consuming only 2 gallons of ,petrol on an average day's wotk. It is designed, generally in accordance with commercial-vehicle usual practice, having a' dry-plate clutch, three-speed gearbox, cardan shaft, and worm-driven axle, incorporating a robust differential gear.

The wheels are shod with Dunlop or Goodyear 23 by 5 pneumatic tyres, twins at the rear, and the truck is capable of a maximum speed of about 12 m.p.h. Girling brakes are standardized, suspension is by four semi-elliptic springs and the straight frame has side members of 4-in.-deep channel. Unladen the truck, with 6-ft. body and no cab, weighs 19 cwt. rts loading height is 2 ft. 7 ins.

'Prevention of overheating. is ensured by employing a large radiator and powerful fan, whilst an adequate range is afforded by a petrol tank of 5 gallons capacity. Ignition is by coil, operated from a 6-volt battery, which also serves an electric starter.

Alternative wheelbase lengths offered are 6 ft. 2 ins., 6 ft. 8 ins., and 7 ft. 2' ins. Various body types are available,, including a model with extensions of. the platform along the bonnet sides.
