THE Loyd Dragon track laying tractor, with earth-moving equipment, gave an impressive account of itself during a three-day demonstration, last week, at Hemel Hempstead New Town. The demonstration was organized by Vivian Loyd and Co., Ltd., Bridge Road, Camberley, Surrey, the manufacturer, and H. A. Saunders, Ltd., U.K. distributor.
Powered by either a Dorman 4DS or a Turner 4V95 Mk. 2 engine, the tractor develops 36.5 b.h.p., and weighs 8,200 lb. it has clutch and brake steering, and orthodox steel tracks.
The Dorman-engined model was used for an earth-moving demonstration, and the equipment included an Onion 3-yd. scraper, a 7-ft. 8-in. angledozer and a rearmounted winch.
Of 8-in. by On. section, the cutting blade of the scraper is 5 ft. long. The bucket has sides 2 ft. 10 ins, high, and the width between the sides is 5 ft. Other dimensions are: Overall width, 5 ft. 9 ins.; overall length, 19 ft.; lift of apron, 2 ft. 11 ins.; maximum depth of cut, 5 ins.; ground clearance under bucket, 1 ft.; ground clearance under blade when hoisted, 1 ft. 1 in. Unladen weight is 4,000 lb.
The angledozer can turn to an angle of 26 degrees to the right or left, and
the blade has a camber. it cart be raised 3 ft. above the ground, and will dig to a maximum depth of 9 ins. The maximum pressure at the minim; edge, including the weight of the blade, is about 4,000 lb.
The winch is certified to have a-minimum pull of 14,000 lb. It is supplied
with 500 ft. of rope, 375 ft. of Fin, rope, or 300 ft. of 2-in. rope. The average rope speed is 65 ft. per minute.
