dated June 1, we gave full 1 details of the 1945 version of the Guy Vixen 4-tonner in the form of a lorry with drop-sided body. This particular model, with certain modifications, is now being produced with tipping body, with variations as to type.

Briefly, the chassis specification includes a four-cylindered overheadvalve engine with a bore of 95 mm. and a stroke of 130 mm., a four-speed

and-reverse gearbox, a fully floating, spiral-bevel-driven rear axle, cam and roller-steering mechanism, and 32-in. by 6-in. tyres.

The tipper chassis has a wheelbase of 10 ft. 71 ins., as against a measurement of 13 ft 11 ins, in the case of the 4-ton• lorry. The other leading dimensions of the tipper chassis are as follow :—Overall length, 15 ft. 4 ins.; rear of cab to end of frame, 10 ft. 4 ins.; maximum

ground clearance, 9 ins.; turning circle, right lock, 45 ft., and left lock, 39 ft. 11 ins.; chassis weight, 35i cwt.; maximum gross laden weight of vehicle not to exceed 6 tons 15 cwt.

A choice of three types of hydraulic tipping gear is offered—an end-tipper with horizontal or twin-ram underbody mechanism, and with twin-ram underbody three-way tipping gear. In the case of both types of end-tipper a 50-degree tipping angle is provided for, whilst, in the case of the three-way machine, the angle for end-tipping is 45 degrees, and for side tipping 55 degrees.

In all cases the tipping gear assembly is mounted in a specially designed subframe, which is readily bolted to the chassis. Tipping stresses are taken through this sub-frame, and the weight is evenly distributed over the vehicle chassis, There are two pipes to return the Oil to the tank when the body is at the full extent of its tip, and thus stress on the gear, which otherwise would result, is prevented. this, of course, would come about should the operative forget to disengage the pump on reaching the limit of the tip angle.

To enable the body and its lord safely to be lowered to the chassis, as may sometimes be found necessary, an oil tank, with a special screw-section release valve, is provided.

The maker is Guy Motors, Ltd., Wolverhampton.
