Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The list of supporters of the Fund in the maximum categctry has already reached encouraging length for the ensuing year—the third in which we have been accepting_ the responsibility of organizing and administering this War Service. The following are the names of members of the motor and allied industries who had, up to Saturday last, intimated their intention to give £120, between now and the end of March next, which sum is. the highest that we are asking at the hands of any individual subscriber :—

Albion Motor Car Co., Ltd.

Associated Equipment Co., Ltd.

Car and General Insurance Corporation, Ltd.

Clayton and Co., Huddersfield, Ltd.

Commercial Cars, Ltd.

Crossley Motors. Ltd.

Daimler Co., Ltd.

Hoyt Metal Co. of Great Britain, Ltd.

Leyland Motors (1914), Ltd.

John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd.

Wolseley Motors. Ltd.

We promised, when referring to the Fund a week ago, that we should make a few extracts from letters which have accompanied remittances.

Letters in Support.

Not a few of those who helped us evidently regard the Fund as being so well-established that their sup

port is practically automatic. This "silent repetition " is none the less valuable and welcome, despite the fact that some of the other letters pass beyond the necessary few words to cover the cheques. For example, Mr. E. M. C. Insbone, writing from the Daimler Works, Coventry, under date the 20th ult., proceeds: "As it would appear that, after two years experience of working the Fund, you find it much more urgent to have the money to spend on the men during the winter than during the summer, it was decided at a Board Meeting of our Directors held today, not only to fall in with your suggestion, but to remit you immediately the sum of £120." Again, Mr. Frederick Vhoreshy, Managing Director of the Car and General Insurance Corporation, Ltd., writing under date the 29th ult., states: "I have the pleasure to inform you that the Directors of this company heartily confirm your proposal, and the method you suggest in dealing with the financial side of your endeavour. We have real and sympathetic appreciation of the efforts of everybody connected with THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR Campaign Comforts Fund. Enclosed is a. cheque for 260, being the amount due from this company to December next." The Albion Motor Car Co., Ltd., of Glasgow, which company has not hitherto helped us in the maximum, category, has also sent its cheque for 2120, which more-extended support from that quarter is as highly appreciated by us as we feel it will be by the M.T., A.S.C. overseas. Mr. Henry Spurrier, Junr., Managing Director of Leyland Motors (1914), Ltd., writing under date the 30th ult., states: "We shall be much pleased to subscribe 220 peamonth, for the next six months, in

stead of 110 a month for the twelve months. t thoroughly agree with you that comforts are required more in winter than in summer."

One of our old supporters at the rate of 25 a month, Alley and MacLellan, Ltd., of Sentinel Works, Shrewsbury, has similarly agreed to double the rate during the winter months, instead of spreading its support over the twelve months, and has sent a cheque for the £60 in one sum; Other promises in the same category, to remit 110 per month over the winter, instead of 15 per month over the 'twelve months, come from the Herbert Frood Co., Ltd., of Chapel-en-le-Frith (Ferodo), Halley's Industrial Motors, Ltd, of Yoker, Hans Renold, Ltd., of Manchester, and Scottish Commercial Cars, Ltd., of Glasgow (Caledon chassis).

Continuing Help Anticipated for 1916-1917 from Old Supporters.

We anticipate that, before we go to Press with next week's issue, we shall have received additional notifications, following the holding of Board meetings, and that some of these will concern renewals at the previous rate of subscription in respect of the whole of the ensuing twelve months. Two such renewals, at the rate of £5 per month, are from Joseph Lucas, Ltd., of Birmingham, and the Mandalay Motor Co., Ltd., of Coventry, whilst Fodens, Ltd., of Sandbach, will similarly "keep going" at the old rate of 210 monthly. Seeing that our financial year ended on the 30th ult., we desire to have intimations from: old supporters who intend to continue during the new financial year, in order that their intentions may be duly acknowledged and recorded.

1916-1917 Account (from lst-7th October, 1916).
