Manheim reports boost in used vans with tippers

Words:. Kevin SwaiAcoN

USED VAN values continue to recover, with the October figures from Manheim Auctions showing a 4.7% increase to £3,590 on the previous month.

Since prices bottomed out in December 2008, the average used value has increased 42%, which translates to £1,066.

Sectors enjoying growth during October include car-derived-vans, which are up 5%; sub-3.0-tonne panel vans are up 6.6% and most tippers, up £367 to £3,892 (10.4%).

Manheim CV sales director Alex Wright says that the continued strengthening of wholesale used van prices is encouraging.

He adds: "I would advise a note of caution, because we are approaching a period of traditional seasonal 'cooling'. Buyers are also becoming more wary of damage and will be hesitant about stocking hIgh-value late and [ow product over this period.

Any continued reduction in volumes of used vans in the wholesale market will drive further price rises, which could result in strong values maintained until the end of the year."
