FreshLim buys 15 DAFs for European expansion plans

SPALDING, LINCOLNSHIRE-based chilled food distributor FreshLine has taken delivery of 15 460hp DAF XF105s in order to support its UK operation and expansion plans into Europe.

Some of the new DAF trucks will be acting as fleet replacements for older MANs and Scanias, while the remaining vehicles have been purchased to boost FreshLine's existing fleet of 148 vehicles.

Andy Ma rchant, fleet engineer at FreshLine. tells CM: "We are eventually looking to run a two-marque fleet because it's more convenient for our operation and because we have DAF and Scania dealers nearby. They service the vehicles out of hours, so there's never any downtime." FreshLinc has also made the move of reducing the top speed of all of the vehicles on its fleet to 54mph from 56mph in order to reduce fuel consumption.

Marchant also adds that DAF's ASTronic automated transmission has also been successful in mak i ng fuel consumption figures more consistent across the fleet.
