• Only 6°i, of Freight Transport Association members increased their domestic road freight business in the third quarter of 1998, says the PTA's Quarterly Transport Activity Survey.

This compares with 22% of FTA members who picked up increased business in the second quarter.

Now the FTA warns that the fourth quarter will see only "limited growth in domestic road freight", most notably in the South-East and Scotland.

International road freight activity was also badly hit, with 20% of survey respondents suffering falling volumes in the third quarter.
