DAF BUS is trying to dent the sales success scored by Dutch rival Bova by launching a keenly priced rear-engined integral.

W. S. Yeates is selling a new special Daf Plaxton 3200 packa g e designed to compete directly with fellow Loughborough dealer Moseley's Bova Duple Calypso and all-Bova Europa range, as well as Moseley's newly announced Caetano Algarve package.

Priced at £55,750 the special package consists of a Daf SB2300 DHS-based Plaxton semi-integral fitted with 53 or 55 seats.

A plug door, wheel trims, soft interior trim, splitter gearbox, air dryer and electronic tachograph are all included as standard equipment. The Bova Duple Calypso is priced by Moseley's at E56,000.

This was one of the exhibits at Yeates's coach show, and helped emphasise the intense competition in the independent section of the coach market.

Yeate's recent appointment as sole UK dealer for MercedesBenz coachwork (CM, October 29) made the Mercedes-Benz 0303 one of the stars of the show.

The coach on display was a German-registered high floor demonstrator similar to the first right-hand-drive vehicles expected to be available early next year. The high-floor right-handdrive model will be available in 12m form with 49 reclining seats, a toilet and driver's bunk as standard.

The net price for this version will be £89,100. Prices have yet to be announced for low-floor and mid-floor models and different length coaches although these are expected to be available later in 1984.

Belgian LAG Galaxy coachwork is also marketed by Yeates and exhibits included the first Galaxy-bodied Leyland Tiger, a rear-engined LAG integral coach built for Marchwood Motorways of Southampton and powered by Daf DKFL engine, and a threeaxle 15-seat LAG Tristar midicoach built to full executive specification complete with airconditioning and a toilet and servery for BCA Aviation.

British built coachwork was also well represented at the show where a variety of Plaxton Paramount 3200 and 3500 and Duple Laser and Caribbean bodied coaches were on display.

Two chassis were displayed including a Daf MB200 DKFL and the first rear-engined Quest 80 VW which is to be fitted with Plaxton coachwork for Bournemouth-based Excelsior Holidays.
