Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE solitary exhibit from the -1 Shelflex factory consists of a 2i-ton standard chassis, although the range, of course, comprises a two-tonner, a 21-ton machine with semi-forward control, and a low-loading refuse-collection chassis.

The four-cylindered engine has a bore and stroke of 100 ram. and 120 mm., and gives a Treasury rating of 24.8 h.p., but the power output at 1,500 r.p.m. is 39 b.h.p. Points of note in connection with the engine are that the crankshaft runs on three ball bearings, one-piece cylinders and heads are employed, and a new system of coupling the carburetter induction to the crankcase has been evolved ; this means that a measure of lubrication is provided for the inlet-valve stems—the oily vapour from the crankcase impinging upon the stems on its way to the combustion chambers.

This last-named feature might easily escape the eyes of the visitor to the Show who is not aware or its exist

ence ; it can hest he seen from the off side when standing beside the dash.

The dynamo mounting has been altered, a tandem drive with a vernier coupling now being used. Slightly longer front springs are fitted to nil prove the flexibility of the suspension, and redesigned spring brackets give a slightly lower loading line. The rear springs have been altered to preclude any possibility of the rear axle moving when a tipping body is installed and is raised to its highest point. The body weight allowance is 13 cwt. The tyre equipment is 32-in. by 6-in. pneumatics, and the chassis price is £550.

An overhead worm axle is employed which gives a ratio of 71 to 1. The worm and differential gears can be removed in tote after removing the axle cover. The axle shafts are made in 3 per cent, high-tensile nickel steel: they can be withdrawn without disturbing the wheel or the need for jacking up the axle. Timken taper-roller bearings carry the wheels and take the side thrust.

The frame side-members are. 51 ins, deep, and the wheelbase of 12 ft. allows a body space of 10 ft. 6 ins.
