SWANSEA has introduced a new bus priority system which goes into operation in June 1978.
The scheme uses a selective detection scheme. Buses are equipped with a unit which activates an electrical loop of wire buried in the road on its approach to traffic lights.
The system speeds up and changes the phasing of the lights to give priority to buses without significantly slowing other traffic.
West Glamorgan County Council considers that the cost of selective detection is less than the cost of providing bus lanes and other conventional means of bus priority and does not physically change or affect the environment.
