AN ELECTRO-mechanical barrier will operate in favour of buses on a Wolverhampton housing estate.
The one foot high, six feet wide black and yellow barrier will be positioned at the Yew Tree Lane entrance to Perton housing estate.
Worked by a system of loop detectors, it will open when a vehicle of bus size crosses its approaches. Instructions on its working will be given to emergency services, but any other large vehicle which 'beats the barrier" will be liable for prosecution.
Wolverhampton Public Works and Highways Committee chairman Councillor Ernest Bold said, "A bus can carry between 60 and 90 people to and from Perton. That is more desirable than people travelling one or two to a car."
