Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

which can be used to determine the centre of gravity and overturning angle of heavy objects. The title of the standard is "Methods of Locating the Centre of Gravity of Heavy Objects" and it has been prepared at the request of the Federation of Construction Equipment.

Methods included in the standard have been selected so that the only facilities required are' likely to be available at most factories, and complicated calculations are not necessary. Three methods are given and these are based respectively on the use of a weighbridge, a pivoted, inclined ramp and suspension from any suitable overhead point such as a girder, gantry or crane hook.

A theodolite is required for the suspension method, but the only instruments required for the others are a spirit level and rule.

Copies of the standard can be obtained from the " British Standards Institution," Sales Branch, 2 Park Street, London, W.1, price 5s. each plus postage.
