BRITISH VITA hit on a new idea when it came to a colour scheme for its fleet of Bedford Luton rigid vans and Fords— it painted the portraits of 37 of its members of staff on the vans' sides, The Road Haulage Association has appointed its third woman area secretary. Mrs Margaret Edmunds has been made Yorkshire (Hull) area secretary after being acting secretary for some months.
She met the RHA when she called at its area office to discuss membership for her haulier husband and was offered a job. That was 14 months ago. Now she follows Mrs Brenda Siddall and Mrs Diedre Kohler as an area secretary.
Bill Hall is the new manager of the Yorkshire and Humberside area of Freightliners. He will be based at Stourton, Leeds, and will be responsible for the terminals at Hull and Reporting to Mr Hall will be Hull branch manager Bill Reed and Sheffield branch manager Ernest Earnshaw.
Ian Blundell takes up a new job as engineering director of BRS North Western. He has been company engineer since 1972 and has held responsibility for the Liverpool branch.
NCL has appointed its new head of marketing. He is Paul Rivett, who will be responsible for all aspects of marketing National Carriers.
Bruce Robertson is the new depot superintendent for the Wessex National, the Bristol unit of the National Travel (South West). He Moves west from the Kelvedon depot of National Travel (South East).
-41/47. Pickfords Removals have appointed their new man in Birmingham. He is Raymond Shovlar, who moves to his new job as branch manager from the Swindon Branch.
His new job will also include the control of the recently completed container warehouse at Walsall.
Meanwhile, back at Pickfords Removals, London, the new North Western London group manager is Howard Routiedge, former Harrow branch manager. He will continue to be based in Harrow.
