Sir Edgar Speyer on the Value of the Motorbus.

Sir Edgar Speyer, Bart., when presiding at the annual general meeting of the Underground Electric Railways Co. of London, on the 5th inst., spoke with evident satisfaction concerning the beneficial effects of his acquirement of the L.G.O.C. undertaking in the year 1912. He reviewed various interrelated Twitters concerning tramway, tube, and motorbus services, and reiterated his opinion that the true solution of the traffic problem of London is to be found in bringing all the transport agencies under one control. This control, however, he added, should be absolutely independent and impartial.

Sir Edgar Speyer proceeded, later in his remarks, to point out that the assets of the Underground Electric Railways Co. almost entirely consisted of its holdings of stocks and shares in subsidiary companies. He faveured the course of actually turning the undertaking into a holding company with wide powers. This proposal woeid shortly be advanced, subject to the necessary sanction of the Court.

At one point of the proceedings, Sir Edgar emphatically reminded the meeting that Mr. Albert H. Stanley, the managing director, was not an American by birth, but a natiw,of Derby.
