• Knorr-Bremse and Wabco both offer roll stability options with EBS.
Wabco's version, called Roll Stability Support, works with 2S/2M equipped trailers with one or two lift axles and it will also support steering axles. RSS will also calculate the actual position of the trailer centre of gravity which it takes into account when determining its response. Wabco says the system even takes account of uneven loading by calculating the individual thresholds for left and right-hand wheels.
Knorr-Bremse's ESP manages vehicle stability in critical driving conditions. Under and oversteer and lateral roll are all controlled automatically by selective braking and control of the engine output, independently of the driver input.
One critical measurement trailer manufacturers must get right is the positioning of the motherboard containing the yaw, pitch and roll sensors. It must no further than 2m forward of the bogie centreline, says Wabco, and within 0.3m of the trailer centreline.
