• After all those 'Road Warriors'. 'Terminators', 'Mad Maxes' and other assorted killing machines, its nice to find an operator who appreciates that a somewhat less aggressive approach to custom truck painting is likely to get members of the groat British public looking at a 44-tonne artic with something approaching fondness.

Step forward Julian Arnold, boss of Kent-based TIC European, who has clearly cornered the market in Gerry Anderson tribute trucks and reminded us all of a childhood long lost. After treating us to his 'Lady Penelope' Daf XF95 at last year's Truckfest he's new gone beyond his original 'Thunderbirds are Go!' paint job and has two new XF tractors boasting murals that remind us of the Supermarionation' wonders of Stingray( named appropriately enough 'Miss Marina', after the fishy Marina, paramour of Capt Troy Tempest) and Captain Scarlet (named 'Miss Destiny', after high-flying Destiny Angel).

Admitting that he has spent a fortune on all three, spotted at the recent Channel Commercials' open day, Julian confessed to finding some custom trucks a bit too violent. "I wanted a colour scheme that wasn't offensive and one that even older people grew up with." Here! Here! So what's the next one? Aficionados of ATV puppet shows can start listing them now--but for starters there's Four Feather Falls, SuperCar and Joe 90 still to come._
