Five drivers employed by Derby-based World Corp Trading have been ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £1,750 after admitting a series of drivers' hours and tachograph offences.

Appearing before magistrates in Harlow, Keith Marsh of Hutton, Essex pleaded guilty to driving for more than four-and-a-half hours without the required break, and was fined £50.

Keith Steffens of Greonhive, Kent, pleaded guilty to 12 offences relating to tachograph infringements. He was lined a total of 1.325.

Steven Watson of Billericay, Essex pleaded guilty to sixteen matters relating to improper use of the tachograph and to driving for more than four-and-a-half hours without the required break. He was fined £45 with costs.

Joseph Cameron of Thrompton, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to 14 offences including failing to use record sheets; having insufficient daily rest; Incorrect use of a tachograph; and making false records. He was fined a total of 1375 with costs.

Andrew Banfield of Grovenor Street, Derby did not appear in court and 10 cases of exceeding his daily duty were found proven against him. He was fined, with casts, a total of E325. All five were additionally ordered to pay ISO towards the costs of the prosecution.

Prosecuting for VOSA, Anthony Ostrin told the court that all five defendants were drivers employed by World Corp Trading and charts relating to all that company's drivers had been seized by enforcement officers.

Ostrin continued: "The charts relating to activities between 1 August 2002 and 30 September 2002 have been analysed, and numerous infringements have been found. All these infringements related to offences of exceeding daily duty; failing to take appropriate breaks; taking insufficient rest and a multitude of other matters relating to the use of tachograph equipment.

"This was a far-ranging enquiry against a number of drivers and summonses have also been issued directly against the operator."

Ostrin explained that the summonses against World Corp Trading would be heard on a future date.
