Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Who should check drivers' licences?

your story about John Davidson driving while banned highlighted how this country's laws have been turned against an efficient transport system.

Why a haulier should be prosecuted because one of his drivers lies about his licence is beyond me. I can't see why hauliers should be expected to check every licence before giving these guys work—surely its up to the drivers themselves to make sure they stay on the right side of the law.

Are hauliers here to make sure society is protected from liars or are they here to deliver goods from A to IP Should we check drivers' birth certificates to make sure they are who they say are—just in case they don't actually have the right to the licence they produce? Gary Wittam, Lincoln.
