STANDARDS WARNING Stourport-on-Severn-based Jack Brown Transport has been warned about its maintenance standards. The firm appeared before West Midland TC David Dixon at a Birmingham public inquiry.

Using two vehicles with inoperative speed limiters cost Chester-based Caxious 11150 in fines and costs. The company admitted the offences before the city's magistrates. The court heard they had come to light after one of the vehicles was clocked by police doing 68mph on the M6.
TIPPER FINES Using an overloaded tipper with a defective tachograph cost St Helens-based C&A Construction £335 in fines and costs. Leigh magistrates were told that the speed stylus was bent and that there was a gross overload of 5.1%.
JIM WO
Hemel Hempstead magistrates fined Cartwright Bros (Haulage) £2,000 after one of its vehicles ran away down a hill when its brakes failed. The company pleaded guilty to using a vehicle with inefficient brakes.
UCENCE CUT Maintenance problems and hours and tachograph offences have resulted in the licence held by Stirling-based J Graham being cut from five vehicles to three for a week. It appeared before Scottish DTC Richard McFarlane at an Edinburgh disciplinary inquiry.
