Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

11 language barriers are costing international hauliers about £4,000 per truck in unclaimed VAT rebates on fuel, road tolls and other expenses, according to a tax specialist, K&D Trading says smaller international hauliers are not pursuing their claims because the forms have to be completed in the main language of the country they are claiming in.

The Uxbridge-based company is launching a service to reclaim this money for hauliers; managing director David Dalglish says the service charges will amount to around 5% of the claim. "It can take years to get the revenue back but we know how to do it," he adds. "We are looking to provide this service for smaller hauliers with around four to five trucks."

Len Beddows, managing director of Liverpool-based international haulier Falcongate Freight, says all his VAT claims are handled by his fuel card operator "It is time consuming and you do need someone to do it for you generally, but there have been people offering this service for years."

K&D estimates that some £40m in VAT is left unclaimed by hauliers every year. It will launch its service at the next Institute of Transport Administration conference in October.
