Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

UNTIL recently it has been necessary for operators purchasing a tankertrailer to order a tank and trailer separately, and arrange for one manufacturer to mount another's equipment. Alternatively, an operator had to place an order for the complete vehicle with one or other manufacturer who subcontracted the part he did not make.

The disadvantages of these two systems have been overcome by Autodrome Engineers. Ltd., Shepley Works Estate, Shepley Road, Auclenshaw, near Manchester, from whom a tankertrailer, designed and built as one vehicle, is now available, and an example of which has been supplied to the Kenya Power Co., Ltd.

Of elliptical section, the 2,200-gal. tank has special raked ends rolled in one plane only and is mounted on the trailer chassis with Metacone mountings. It is 19 ft. long, 7 ft. wide and 3 ft. 6 in. high. Access to the compartments is through Emco open-fill manholes approached by a tubular steel ladder, and full-length chequered plate catwalk.

Contents gauges are fitted at each end, and outlet pipes for both compartments are carried to the near side rear of the vehicle.

Consisting of two 20-ft. long main members in angle-section pressed steel, the chassis is of bolted construction and has tubular cross-members. The forecarriage is mounted on a ball-bearing turntable and has a Y-type rolled steel drawbar. Tapered-roller hub bearings are employed, whilst semi-elliptic springs and twin 7.50-20 in. (10-ply) tyres are fitted all round.

Two-line air-pressure brakes are used. with Girling two-leading-shoe 15i in. by 5 in. units at each wheel.

A complete range of road tanks is also available for rigid vehicles, semi-trailers, independent trailers and frameless trailers, delivery taking from eight-ten weeks.
