Oil/solvent mixture

A MIXTURE of penetrating oil and solvent which lubricates, protects against rust, cleans and releases and displaces water by creeping under it has been introduced by Slip. It is marketed as Molyslip Combat.

An affinity for metallic surfaces is the reason for the efficiency of the fluid as a penetrating and releasing agent and because it cannot itself be displaced by water it offers protective cover. Water displacement and protective properties are said to be effective even with salt water.

Cleansing derives from the solvent content and lubrication from the oil content plus lanolin.

Made by: The Slip Group, Hatfield Road, St. Albans, Herts.

Price: In spray container, 9s 9d; lgal, £1 15s; 5gal, £1 8s per gal; 45gal, £1 3s per gal.

Improved grease guns

Two low-priced grease guns have recently been introduced by Ch. J. Neuman. Both guns can be loaded with a Nubrol cartridge or loose grease and each of them is an improved version of an existing model in the Nubrex range.

The lightweight Calibre 10 Multi-Loader gives a pressure in excess of 10,000 p.s.i. with one-hand operation and a pressure release valve to the extension nozzle means that the gun can be removed from the nipple or grease point without damage to gun or nipple.

The Nubrex Mk 401 is a plunger-action gun. One-hand operation gives pressures up to 5,000 p.s.i. and the gun is supplied in a pack with snap-on and needle-point nozzles and grease cartridge.

Prices: Mk 401, £2 9s 11d; Calibre 10, 19s 11d.

Tubes and bars

A METAL called Caro-Buhler has been introduced into the UK by Carobronze Ltd. It is made by the firm's Austrian associates, Enzesfeld-Caro Metallwerke AG, nd is said to have excellent physical and mechanical characteristics for use as plain bearing bushes, sleeves, liners and other anti-frictional components.

Caro-Buhler is a copper-zinc base alloy having improving constituents which is cold-worked into tubes and bars. The structure is of uniform fine grain, free of pores and inclusions, which is capable of a high standard of machined finish ensuring maximum lubrication effectiveness.

On test, bushes are said to have been run at loadings up to 5,000 p.s.i. at peripheral speeds approaching 35 ft/sec.

Tubes and bars are supplied with small overall machining allowances. Minimum order is 3cwt of a size.

Marketed by: Carobronze Ltd., School Road, Belmont Road, London, W4.

Metric bearings

AN ADDITIONAL RANGE of highproduction, lower-cost taper-roller bearings has been introduced by the Timken Roller Bearing Co. Called the Timken J-Line, they are a group of 30 completely new single-row assemblies designed to achieve the optimum bearing-size-to-capacity relationship. The design features of the bearings are a smaller total envelope for a given capacity and a saving in price.

Manufactured for shaft diameters to metric sizes between 50 and 200mm bore (1.9865 to 7.874in.), they have the potential of replacing 281 existing bearings in the Timken high-volume range.

Twenty sizes are immediately available and the other 10 sizes will be offered as demand develops.

Made by: British Timken, a Division of The Timken Roller Bearing Co., Duston, Northants, A NUMBER of portable tyre-inflation units have been introduced recently which are essentially compressed-air reservoirs. The same can be said for the Blackhawk Porto-Flator but there is one difference— the swan-neck carrying handle incorporates a filling valve so that each time the unit is hung up—on an air outlet with mating connection—it automatically recharges itself.

The air reservoir stands on short legs and at its top there is a dial calibrated in p.s.i. and kg/cm'. The reservoir will hold enough air to top up several car-size tyres and although primarily designed for garageforecourt use it will have applications in many fleets.

Data sheets

THE British Aluminium Co. has issued a new folder of data sheets on the use of aluminium in containers. Called Containerization—Baeo Aluminium for Containers, the folder includes an introductory leaflet which details the advantages of aluminium for freight containers and two further data sheets summarize the basic details relevant to sheet and coil products and extruded sections for this application.

Two more sheets cover Baco products suitable for freight containers—Pan-AL-Rib and Reefer Flooring.

Pull clamp

THE EK-182 Multi-Directional Pull Clamp is the latest addition to the range of Blackhawk Dozer accessories for body repairs. Its most important feature is that it is capable of taking a pull from different directions without change of position.

A wide jaw ensures firm grip over a wide panel area and lessens the risk of tearing the metal. The pulling eye swivels in an arcshaped slot at the rear of the clamp and automatically aligns itself with the direction of pull. Inside the clamp body, the conical end of the eye bolt rides up the tapered lips of the slot, opening slightly the back of the jaws and closing the front to ensure a tighter grip as the load increases.

Heat from waste

E. F. ALLCHIN and Co. has introduced three models of waste-oil-burning workshop heaters.

The W.10 is a completely new heater with a smaller heat output than the previously marketed W.30. It is intended for the smaller workshop and has a maximum heat output of 50,000 Btu/hour on about 3 to 4 pints of waste engine oil per hour. It is fitted with a safety float regulator valve with a magnetic cut-off which is activated in the event of oil exceeding a pre-determined level in the combustion chamber.

The magnetic contact is broken by depressing the release button on the top of the valve housing to restart the fuel flow again. The new W.30 is a development of the previous W.30 and provides 120,000 Btu/hour on 6 to 7 pints of waste oil per hour. A float regulator valve similar to that of the W.10 is fitted and this is activated in exactly the same way.

The third new model is the W.40 with a heat output of 160,000 Btu/hour using 7 to 8 pints of oil an hour. This model has an electrically operated metering pump which is designed to prevent more than a given maximum flow of waste oil to the combustion chamber. Additionally, a thermostat is fitted which cuts out the electric metering mechanism in the event of the combustion chamber temperature falling below 30deg C (86deg F). Made by: E. F. Allchin and Co. Ltd., 253 Bordesley Green, Birmingham 9.

Prices: W.10, £27 10s; W.30, £44 10s; W.40, £70.

The photograph of the Allchin heater appeared inadvertently in last week's issue with the report on the Yale discharged battery indicator.
