Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Single-drive and double-drive sixwheelers based on the Leyland Redline Mastiff 16-ton-gross two-axle model are now offered by Unipower Ltd. These models have been approved by Leyland Motors (Scotland) Ltd and retain the original mechanical components which include a Perkins V8 179 bhp (BS gross) engine and Eaton Yale and Towne five-speed synchromesh gearbox.

The 6 x 2 Mastiff /Unipower keeps its original driving axle and has an undriven axle added. In the case of the double-drive model, an Eaton 30 DT bogie with air-operated two-speed axles is used. Bogie suspension is by the new Unipower four-spring layout and the bogie centre brackets, balance beams, spring mountings and front and rear hanger brackets are Leyland components. Brakes at the bogie have 15.5in. by 7in. shoes and operation on the added axle as well as the other two is by Westinghouse spring brakes. This makes the secondary system applicable to all wheels—by exhausting the air holding off the springs.

The longest-wheelbase Mastiff is used as the basis for the six-wheelers and this is strengthened by internal and external flitching. If extra long chassis are needed Unipower can fit an additional " section within the frame length plus additional reinforcement.

It is proposed that three wheelbases will be offered as standard. It has not yet been decided what the actual dimensions will be as this will depend on what axle spread requirements are related to particular weights in revised regulations expected from the DoE within the next two or three months. Unipower will be able to provide any wheelbase required by an operator and the chassis will be suitable for operation at maximum weights up to 24 tons.
