iNCLUSIVE overseas holidays were a I new form of competition for passenger operators in Britain, the West Midland Traffic Commissioners were told on Tuesday. Kendrick Tours, Ltd., Dudley, Worcs, sought licences fm-three groups of excursions and tours from the Dudley and Tipton areas.

Mr. J. Else, for the concern, said that competition within the road passenger industry itself, with the railways or private motoring could be " fitted in," but home operators now faced a serious threat People could take a holiday iibroad for as little as £33 12s.

Mr. R. J. Oldham, general manager, stated that the cost of Continental holidays was coming within the reach of many people, and the effect was becoming serious. Kendrick had to widen the scope of their facilities to the public to remain flourishing.

The Commissioners granted the applications, except in regard to vehicle allocation and certain football tours, about which they requested more information.

RIG RETURN FOR LOW COST IT was surprising that some garage pro prietors were hesitant to install diesel service equipment, particularly as there was a. big potential return for little capital outlay.

This was stated by Mr. R. Rhodes, technical director of the Merlin Engineering Co., Ltd., Halifax, when an extension of the company's works was opened last week. It provides for a 50 per cent. increase in output and incorporates a training centre for instruction on the use of Merlin equipment.

Courses last from two to five days and 12 pupils are accepted at a time.

11-FT. RESTRICTION REMOVED

THE use of unladen dumpers and other special vehicles over 11 ft. wide for moving excavated material will now be permitted on the roads subject to conditions.

An order to this effect, made by the Minister of Transport, was issued yesterday. It also regulates the use for testing, delivery and so on of vehicles and trailers constructed for export, and of prototype vehicles.

COACH RALLY AT BRIGHTON THE event formerly known as the British Coach Rally will in future be called the Brighton Coach Rally, and will be held this year on April 23-24. U.T.A. CAPITAL CHANGE THE capital structure of the Ulster Transport Authority, which owes a large sum of money to the Government, is to be reorganized. A Bill for this purpose is to be presented in the new session of the 'Ulster Parliament, which opened on Tuesday
